About Us
This is the developer blog for the website Where To Start With, we will use this blog to keep you up to date with development and progress on Where To Start With.
What is Where To Start With?
Where to Start With was born from a need that we found ourselves having, we would be recommended an artist/band by a friend, or hear a track or two which we liked, but when we went to get an album to try we found they had quite a few releases in their back catalog.
Now unless the band in question is flawless they are bound to have a few not-so-great albums amongst their back catalogue. So where do you start with this band? You could just pick an album in a suck-it-and-see kind of way. If you do that and end up with one of the poorer albums chances are you’re not going to persist with the artist and may pass them over forever. However if you’re lucky and pick a great release you may just find your new favourite artist.
Where to Start With tries to help you with this problem, by letting people who are intimately familiar with the artist guide you with collaboratively recommendations, some people even recommend which releases you should avoid!
Why Where To Start With?
Whereas there are plenty of normal review sites or sites that tell you the popularity of albums we have not found anything that helps you in such a simple manner as saying "when trying band x make sure you start with album y, if you like that then go on and try albums z & a, but you’d probably best avoid album b for now." In a nutshell that is basically what Where To Start With aims to do, but it does a lot more with new features being added regularly.
Okay, you’ve convinced me, what now?
Where to Start With is free to join and use for anyone, however we’re currently in private beta (which simply means a test version of the site is up and running) to try and iron out any problems before going public. If you’re interested then please sign up for the private beta, as we’re adding new people to it every day.
